$MGC_WD

$MGC_WD specified the initial working directory of all the Mentor Graphics tools. The soft path is set in your system file .cshrc (hidden, under your ~ directory). You can change the soft path by editing the .cshrc file if you have preferred path. However be careful when you do it. You had better keep a copy of original file. .cshrc is like config.sys file in PC.

You can also change the working directory after invoking Mentor Graphics tools. By click the menu: MGC>Location Map>Set working directory. You should remember that you have not change the setting of $MGC_WD. What you do is changing the working directory for the specific application.
