Start the next 1000 years right by hiking with us along Elk Fork south of McArthur. We will revisit technology of the last century: the Vinton Furnace, first placed in blast in 1854. Swat those old Y2K bugs as we admire the coke oven, built of Belgian brick under the supervision of Charles Innis Rader. All is now in ruins, alas. Plan on hiking 8 miles. Meet at 9:00 AM at the Consumer's Outlet, Winchester Pike and Refugee Road, or meet Bob Curtis in the Athens area. Your car pool coordinator is Larry Staats (891-6293). Call Bob Curtis (740-593-5203), or Larry for more details. Note: This Hike is Y2K compliant!
E/S: 3/3.
