Tollgate 1 Executive summary:

The “audience” is a decision maker in your company.

At this stage in the design process a decision will be made by the company to

1)    Support the project as-is for development and further refinement

2)    Require changes/additional justification before supporting continuation of the project

3)    Kill the project.

Your design report and executive summary must provide an honest evaluation of your project status and make a clear, concise and strong case to convince the decision makers to continue funding your project or kill it and reassign resources.
