Semi-formal presentation

Purpose

To describe and justify the refined needs statement, show its link to the overall need related to energy and the environment, and highlight the sellable or differentiating aspects of the need you have defined that are not addressed by available products (the business opportunity)

To present justified target specifications (not just the what, but the why). If there are "combined project specs" with other groups, highlight and justify your proposed values for the combined specs.

Based on project status, you may also include info on the process being used to generate creative ideas and develop system-level conceptual design alternatives, and highlight features of some concepts.

Include info on the "process" throughout the presentation:

· Processes used to select a meaningful project to work on and set meaningful target specs

· Processes used to enhance creativity and to maximize the number of different system-level and
subsystem-level concepts considered

· Process used/planned to get initial ideas and regular feedback from the "customer" with respect to
specifications and concepts

· Process used/planned to screen concepts (system-level and subsystem-level if appropriate)

Presentation Details

• Each Team will have 10-15 minutes to present
  1 presenter should represent the team, the entire team should contribute to the preparation and review of the presentation
• Introduce the team and all of the team members
• Describe the refined needs statement
• Technical Content (as described above)
1. Include sketches (approximately scaled, and including users in operating position(s)) for multiple system-level concepts
• Immediate plans for continuing the iterative conceptual design process
• Identify any concerns with respect to feasibility of the project
• The presenter fields all questions but may pass them on to the appropriate team member to respond.
• Business casual dress is appropriate
• Presentation schedule: see calendar

The quality of the process, the project work, and the presentation will be evaluated.

1. Quality of Work / Content of presentation a. Processes used are appropriate and are described well b. Needs statement, target specs and concepts (if applicable) are complete and creative, and are justified and described well [Good Quality Sketches / descriptions] 2. Quality of presentation and ability to participate in technical discussions. a. Appropriate style and pace, good use of visual aids (pictures supported by words), Clear and concise treatment of main points, adequate time given to all key points b. Ability to respond to questions in a professional manner (non-defensive attitude, repeats question for all to hear, asks clarifying questions if necessary, provides a correct answer or defers question to another team member, makes sure team recorder has the question written down)
