Both must operate properly under a wide range of adverse conditions such as:
- Mechanical overload (and “galloping conductors”) resulting from ice loading on transmission lines suspended (via insulators) from transmission towers.
- Exposure to adverse atmospheric conditions such as fog, rain, ice and air pollution.
- Gunshot.
