When Should Machines be Utilized?
Automation may be applied to jobs for a variety of reasons such as the following:
Improved speed and responsiveness e.g., bar code scanners at grocery check-out counters
Improved jobs e.g., the use of robots in hazardous job environments
Improved cost e.g., machines are paid no salary (and fringe benefits)
Improved quality Machine output is very precise (quality of conformance)
