KVL for the RL circuit below yields the differential equation (DE): Ldi(t)/dt + Ri(t) = vS(t) which can be written as di(t)/dt + (R/L)i(t) = (1/L)vS(t) which is of the generic form: dx(t)/dt + ax(t) = f(t)
Since the behavior of all of the single-inductor RL and single-capacitor RC circuits studied in Chapter 6 are governed by this generic-form DE, it’s (generic) solution is studied next
